Governor Newsom has issued an Executive Order expanding workers’ compensation benefits amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. Well in advance of the governor’s order, AGC of California was actively engaged in communication with the Newsom Administration to reflect the voice of the construction industry. While our ongoing advocacy resulted in some concessions, we have significant concerns over the order’s impact on our industry and the health of the state’s business climate.

We know there are many questions and concerns over the order, so we urge you to join us for a WebEd on Tuesday, May 12 to hear from a group of legal experts from AGC’s Legal Advisory Committee. This WebEd will provide in-depth information on the order, how to best minimize your company’s exposure, and how to build a strong employer rebuttal case when necessary.

T. Michael Toole is the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Toledo. His previous employment includes serving five years of active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps, management positions with a publicly traded homebuilder and a multidisciplinary engineering firm, and Associate Dean of Engineering and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bucknell University.

He has served as the Vice Chair of the ASCE/Construction Institute Prevention through Design Committee and the Site Safety Committee and as the Co-Chair of the NIOSH NORA Construction Sector Council Construction Hazards Prevention through Design workgroup.

Mike received his B.S. from Bucknell and his Masters and Ph.D. from M.I.T. He is a professional civil engineer, a member of NSPE, a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Chair of the Ohio Engineering Deans Council, and hosts www.designforconstructionsafety.org.
