Under SB 1343, all California companies with five or more employees must provide sexual harassment training to all employees. Non-supervisory employees must receive at least one hour of sexual harassment training, and supervisors must receive two hours of sexual harassment training. This training must be renewed every two years and be provided to any new hire within six months of their hire date or promotion to a supervisory position. This course meets the state-mandated requirements. The first hour is designed for all employees, and the second hour contains information specifically for supervisors.

State marijuana laws and changing rules on drug testing have made it more difficult for signatory contractors drug test employees. In an era where there has been a growing acceptance towards medical marijuana, recreational marijuana, CBD and edibles, there can be a lot of factors for contractors to consider before implementing a drug test.

This webinar will provide signatory contractors with the latest updates they need to know about federal and state marijuana laws, and how those laws could affect drug testing policies in their CBAs and customer-mandated policies.

New cladding systems continue trickling into the market to meet all the latest code requirements. However, stucco is still dominant and the preferred cladding for many in the west. For stucco contractors, it may feel more like "the wild west" regarding the building of stucco assemblies in compliance with the building codes.

Between the 2021 editions of the International Building Code and International Residential Code requirement for increased drainage over wood-based sheathing, the Title 24 requirements, and NFPA 285 requirements, it can be highly daunting for stucco contractors. And as expected, everyone seems to have an opinion on how these stucco assemblies should be built. For this reason, WACA has put together a group of manufacturers to break down the code requirements, offer product solutions and display full-scale step-by-step mock-ups of Continuous Insulation (CI) assemblies and drainage mat stucco assemblies.

In 2020, physical assault was identified as the 4th leading cause of workplace deaths. Nearly 2 million American workers experience violent acts at work annually. As the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be entering the endemic phase and workers begin to transition back into the workplace, experts predict even more of an increase in workplace violence. Thus, employers will want to be prepared to prevent these types of incidents and protect their employees to the extent possible, as well as ensure they are doing all that’s required from a regulatory standpoint.

Workplace violence has been a focus for both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) well before the pandemic and remains so now. While OSHA has no specific standard for workplace violence, the OSH Act's General Duty Clause requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized serious hazards, and OSHA has instituted enforcement actions under its General Duty Clause after incidents of workplace violence. OSHA has also initiated a rulemaking to address workplace violence in specific industries. For its part, the EEOC has also prioritized ways to effectively prevent and address workplace violence, particularly in the form of workplace harassment. And outside of OSHA and the EEOC, employers can also be held liable for workplace violence through other claims such as negligent hiring and supervision.
