Presenter Bio

Mike Donlon is currently the principal at MD Safety Service, offering consultation and training to a variety of clients. Prior to that he was the Chief Safety Officer at the Department of Water Resources, where he developed a safety program to protect 3,500 employees and cut recordable injuries in half. He spent 16 years at Cal/OSHA specializing in industrial, construction, and electrical safety. Mike has extensive experience with cranes, machinery and equipment, training, and development of safety orders. Prior to this he was a System Safety Engineer for the US Air Force analyzing military systems and managing the construction safety program at McClellan AFB. Mike was a long-term instructor at Sacramento State and the UC Davis Extension. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, is a Registered Professional Engineer, and a Certified Safety Professional.

Speakers

Jeff Mittl is a Firestop Protection Specialist in the Pacific NW with Hilti USA. Jeff has been with Hilti for 22 years and covers structural and non-structural construction trades, the inspection community, and architects in Oregon and eastern Washington.

Brandon Winters has been with Hilti for 20 years. He spent the first 10 years as a sales account manager for the Interior Finish trades in the Bellevue and Seattle area. For the last 10 years, his role has been a Fire Protection Specialist with a focus on helping customers with Hilti firestop specifically. He supports all trades including GC’s, drywall and MEP in western Washington and helps with firestop education, inspection, and installer training. He is a great resource for firestop pre-con alignment meetings, helping find the correct products and the corresponding UL firestop systems, and can help facilitate engineered solutions as needed.

Donna Graves is a nationally respected public historian whose work sits at the intersection of preservation, community engagement, and social equity. For decades, she has collaborated with communities to research, document, and interpret histories that traditional narratives often leave behind, particularly those of women, workers, immigrants, and LGBTQ+ communities.

A key contributor to Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park, Donna has helped reframe how we understand the American home front by centering diverse experiences and local stories. Her work challenges us to think more expansively about what counts as history, whose stories are preserved, and how place can foster belonging, justice, and hope.

In dialogue with Pamela Buckingham, Communications and Marketing Manager with the Trust, Donna Graves will discuss her work with community-centered history projects, including World War II home front sites, and examine how everyday places labor, and lived experiences shape public memory. Together, the conversation will explore whose stories are remembered, how equity and inclusion can inform interpretation, and why place-based history matters, and how places like Rosie the Riveter can help us understand our current moment.
